Visit to Marina Barrage

Singapore's latest downtown icon!

Built across the mouth of Marina Channel, the Marina Barrage creates Singapore's 15th reservoir, and the first in the heart of the city. With a catchment area of 10,000 hectares, or one-sixth the size of Singapore, the Marina catchment is the island's largest and most urbanised catchment. Together with two other new reservoirs, the Marina Reservoir will boost Singapore's water catchment from half to two-third's of the country's land area.

The construction begun in early 2005 and completed in 2008, and many measures have been put in place to ensure that all operations will be carried out smoothly and safely.

So, this tour was held last Thursday (23 April 2009) at Marina Bay. We visited both the Marina Barrage and Sustainable Singapore Gallery (SSG). It's impressed to look at the innovative barrage model, organic trees, history review, ABC [Active, Beautiful & Clean Waters] programme, 3P [People, Private & Public] and achievement in Singapore's green efforts. This outing started at 4:00 pm and ended at 6:00 pm. My company has chartered 2 buses.... At the end of the tour, I have taken a photo of myself there :D
