Futsal Match

Coincide with the World Cup in S. Africa pretty soon, my company has organized a futsal competition for staff to take time off work & play in this exciting match. Date: Thur, 27 May 2010.

There must be at least 3 males and 2 females in a team during the game. My team was named as "Supernatural" and we have 5 males & 2 females (including myself). The rule of the game is that only female can be the goal keeper & striker - short to say - only female can kick in the goals :D

This game was held at Uber Sports at Sport Planet East Coast, 1020 East Coast Parkway (previously a Tennis Centre). The match started at 2.30 pm and ending at around 6:00 pm.

After tough fights plus penalty kicks, this team "Supernatural" won a 3rd placing in the match - still not too bad :D

Call for New Musical: Expectations!

What have I been busy with lately?

I am busy practising some songs with fellow members of BF. BF is a Buddhist Fellowship located at Yeo's Building (near Telok Belangah). 佛光山 Fo Guang Shan is the chinese version, located in Punggol whereas BF is the english version.

It's the "The Soracco Musical Group" I am involved in (also the first time I am experiencing such performance!)....

This musical group of the Buddhist Fellowship (Singapore) will be presenting an original musical entitled "Expectations!" at the Jubilee Hall Theatre at Raffles Hotel, as part of its Vesak celebrations. Co-written and co-directed by Lim Kay Siu (acted in Phua Chu Kang), the run will take place from 20-23 May @ 8:00 pm.

Sue Wei, Metta, Janis, Christina, me & August (music director)

Jacklyn (actress), me, Sue Ann, Janis & Huey Chen (choir)

ABOUT THE SHOW

As its name suggests, Expectations! takes us into the baggage everyone has to carry with their relationships: the expectations of our partners, our familities, our friends, and many, many more pieces of clothing that threaten to leave a mess of the ties between man and wife, boyfriedn and girlfriend. The musical presents these issues with a light-hearted approach; yet the experiences and the emotions connect to our hearts. The show contains original musical numbers which heighten the emotional aspects of the musical. These numbers will be performed by the leads as well as a chorus.

ABOUT THE SORACCO MUSICAL GROUP

The Soracco Musical Group is a performing arts branch of the Buddhist Fellowship. It aims to deliver the messages of the dharma through high quality arts performances. Since its formation in 2005, it has actively conceptualised and staged many successful large and small-scale musical events and performances, many of which have been met with acclaim. Highlights include the revue Opening the Door of Your Heart (2005, restaged 2006), based on selected stories from Ajahn Brahm's popular book of the same title, the musical Passge of Time (2007, restaged 2008), as well as a concert entitled consisting of contemporary Buddhist and popular fare entitled Vesak! Vesak! Vesak! (2009).

Sport of Gateball

Have you heard of "gateball" sport?

In Singapore, it used to be a famous game for the local older chinese but lately, we begin to see an interest built among the older segment of Malay community. There are plans to increase the number of gateball courts in Tampines area, and to held more competitions to attract more people to join this game. It is an interesting game that requires good teamwork and strategy thinking!

Last weekend, when I had shopping & lunch with my hubby near Beach Road (or Golden Mile Complex), I passed by a wide field area where this game were played by a group of old folks (chinese & malay). It happened to be a tournament named as "Denise Phua Lay Peng Cup Gateball Invitation Tournament". The game is very slow but it was the first time I saw such game in Singapore.....

Out of curiousity, I took a picture of it, so that, I can share the photo with all my friends who are reading my blog heee ... :D

Dharma Talk: Path to Happiness

There is a talk organized by Buddhist Fellowship @ Yeo's Building, near Harbourfront this evening @ 7:15 pm. This talk was about path to happiness - without unwholesome addictions by Ajahn Brahm, he is from BF Australia.

He said when someone is lack of love or unhappy with their lives, they will get themselves addicted to something, for example, drugs, alcohol, smoking, sex, killing or even suffer from inner hurts. So, the only way to prevent this addiction is to gain passion and love from others.

Therefore, parents and teachers played an important role in promoting their loves. Never, never reprimand someone in public when they have done something wrong. Never despise someone when they ain't perform well because nobody is perfect, everyone makes mistakes! In reverse, gives them more reasonings and encouragement for them to move forward.

He said "honesty" is the top ranking in life. When someone is being honest for their wrong doings, forgive them but don't overacted or put more blames on them otherwise they wouldn't be honest again.

In work life, stress is in-control. When you feel 'stress' at things you are doing, just gives yourself 30 mins to relax and unwine. When you came back, you will feel fresh and you have the energy to finish off what you are doing.

In life, don't expect too much! When expectations are high, we will never be able to achieve happiness. Husband, wife and kids must say good things to each other, loves each other and spend times with each other to build 'loving' relationship.

So, learn to be relax and you shall gain happiness.
