靜岡縣 Shizuoka: 箱根山 Mt.Hakone - 大涌谷

Date: Sunday, 13th April 2008 (Morning) - Day 3

Weather: 14˚C~15˚C (daytime) / 10˚C~13˚C (night time)

Our journey continues after checked out from Hotel Nikko Toyohashi. Firstly, the coach used Shizuoka Highway 靜岡縣 to go to Mt Fuji. Secondly, after 1 hour of driving, the coach let us get down at Mt Fuji resting area 富士川乐座 for refreshments (2nd picture above).

Since today is Sunday, it is also an outing day for the locals. Many japanese brought their doggies out & relaxes at this area. Most japanese guys would go for motor racing, plenty of bikes parked here, 1 of the model was 'Valkyrie'....

The coach continued its journey after 1/2 hour rest at 富士川乐座. Our lunch has been arranged nearby Shizuoka Highway (picture below). A 'highway restaurant' sells food as well as snacks that are favourites to all, their businesses are good too. This unique flowers (white & purple) was found outside this restaurant!

After lunch, I walked around the store to find if there is anything interests me. I was attracted to a plant displayed at the store #%$%$#! I was curious, so I took a photo of it, but, to my surprise, it was a 'wasabi' plant, ah !!!

I bought some snacks here before returned to the coach. 盈盈 told us sad news when all were ready to adjourne for Mt Fuji => not a good day to visit Mt Fuji :-\ She asked her friends and other tour guides met along the way, most of them could only reached 1st station (Note: To enter Mt Fuji by coach, the maximum station could go is 5th station.) So, 盈盈 seek our permission to change Mt Fuji visit to tomorrow and we agreed.

In our itinerary, Owakudani Valley visit (2nd picture showed the entrance. 3rd picture is a gifts shop) is for tomorrow but has to be brought forward to today. Weather temperatures this time is pretty cold.... Owakudani Valley 大涌谷 is also called 'boiling valley', why? Owakudani is the area around a crater created in the last eruption of Mount Hakone 3000 years ago. Sulfurous fumes, hot springs and hot rivers can be experienced on a walkaround the area. Hmmm, the smell is just like dirty wastes....

Eggs, boiled in the naturally hot waters, are said to prolong one's life by seven(7) years and are readily available for sale. One egg equals to 7 years so 2 eggs equals to... wah!
